Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actress and singer whose acting versatility earned her praise across a range of genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson daughter of an architect and a producer, was born within New York City. Her twin brother Hunter and she were the youngest siblings. At a very young age, she developed a passion for acting and began making commercial auditions around the age seven. To enhance her abilities, she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in Manhattan as well as at the Professional Children's School. At the age of eight old, Johansson starred alongside Ethan Hawke as Sophistry in Off-Broadway productions. And at age nine, she debuted in Rob Reiner's North (1994). Johansson made her debut as a character in Just Cause (1996), however the film Manny & Lo 1996 that was her breakthrough. The film tells the story of two girls orphaned by their parents who run away. The Horse Whisperer (1998) Johansson, who plays a teenaged girl with facial disfigurement, received praise from the critics.
